ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Monuments – conceived in ruin – populate the field, and in their deteriorated state are susceptible to the apparatuses of measurement. Identified as junk, as parts no longer (or never to have been) cohered to a significant whole, the forms are anonymized as sets of numerical qualities from which new patterns emerge.
This drawing is part of The Battlefields Project (2019-current), a work that records the world’s historical battlefields through topographic surveys, field notes, and the proposition of new monuments in order to explore the interchanges of contemporary thought and memorialized history, and to challenge curatorial processes and cultural narratives.
