ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This drawing is the beginning of a project exploring memory and perception in Paris. The practice of architecture is deeply affected by memory and perception: One work melds into the next, and over the course of the life of an architect, space, real and imagined, evolve into new ideas. Soufflot’s Pantheon was begun in 1755, at the height of Enlightenment investigations of reason, nature and the sublime, and owes some of its spatial dynamism to Piranesi’s Carceri prints from 1750.
